Gifted Advisory Committee Meeting
Minutes
February 26, 2008
Kevin Kendall called the meeting to order at Waddell Elementary School, room 109.
The following individuals were in attendance: Len Zentz, Rich Dowd, Megan Fulcher, Vicky Saunders, Janice Leadbetter, Chris Gavaler, and Beverly Kalasky.
AGENDA: Review Parent Surveys
DISCUSSION:
The group discussed and made revisions to the Survey prepared by Megan. A line for parents to add “comments” will be added at the end of each section.
With regard to “Differentiated Classroom Program,” the following description will be added:
“All teachers deliver differentiated instruction that enriches
beyond the grade level SOL. Please comment on your
child’s experience with the additional content.”
The order of the questions in the Humanities and Math sections will be changed to begin with more general questions, progressing to more individualized questions.
With regard to teacher surveys, grade level teams will meet with Kevin to discuss concerns and set goals for next years. Kevin will share any proposed changes to the current service model with the GAC.
Student surveys were discussed and they will receive a modified version of the parent surveys, to include math, social studies and differentiation, albeit with responses limited to “easy,” “average,” and “challenging.” Kevin will have the students complete the surveys when he meets with them.
The parent surveys will be sent via email on March 31, 2008, with a hard copy to go home with report cards on April 7, 2008. Target completion date is April 21, 2008. Kevin will draft a cover letter to accompany the survey with a request to complete a survey for each child and include comments if dissatisfied.
The Middle School survey will only include questions regarding communication and differentiation, as there is no pull-out program at this level.
