Gifted Advisory Committee Meeting

Minutes - November 27, 2007

Kevin Kendall called the meeting to order at Waddell Elementary School, room 109.

The following individuals were in attendance: Beverly Kalasky, Megan Fulcher, Gretchen Sukow, Vicky Saunders, Kim Gregory, Chris Gavaler, and Stephanie Haraway.

AGENDA:

                        1.  Approve September 18, 2007 meeting minutes.

                        2.  Discuss Program Evaluation Surveys

                        3.  Highlights from State and National Gifted Education Conferences

                        4.  Program update

                        5.  New Business

            ITEMS DISCUSSED:

1.      September meeting minutes approved.

2.      Extensive discussion of revisions to Gifted Program Evaluation Surveys. Megan will continue to tweak the Survey, to pare it down so as to make it more useful, user friendly and really get at the information most useful to Kevin and the committee.  These surveys will be sent home with 3^rd nine weeks report cards.

3.      Agenda items 3 and 4 were tabled until the next meeting due to time constraints.

NEW BUSINESS

MATH MENTORS – we need more, as grades 4 and 5 are short on mentors.  Additionally, student mentors’ schedules will change in the new year, so we may be short in other grades as the year progresses.  Megan Fulcher volunteered to send out another campus notice at W&L once the students have their new semester schedules.

SCIENCE SPEAKERS – volunteers are getting back to Gretchen Sukow regarding their availability.

PROGRESS REPORTS – Kevin handed out a sample report and advised that the next reports will be paper, but then hopes to receive permission to send electronically.   These will go home with 2^nd nine weeks report cards.
